Medical Abortion (5-8 weeks)
Medical abortion also called "Abortion by Pill" is offered to patients between 5 and 8 weeks of pregnancy. The medications used are FDA approved Mifeprex in combination with Misoprostol.
The Process: At the time of the appointment the patient will complete a medical history, lab work will be completed and an ultrasound performed to confirm gestation. The patient will go through a thorough consultation session with our Clinician. The patient is then given one pill to take by mouth at the clinic. This is the Mifeprex. This pill will stop the growth of the fetus. The patient is given misoprostol to insert vaginally 2 days later. This medication causes the expulsion process. It is normal for the patient to experience painful cramping and heavy bleeding during this process. The patient will then return to our facility 2 weeks later for a follow-up ultrasound to make sure all the tissue passed.
The Medical Abortion is 98 percent effective. In the unlikely event that the procedure is unsuccessful, the surgical procedure (aspiration) will be performed free of charge at our facility. The fees include medications, ultrasounds and follow-up exam(s).

Surgical Abortion (5-16 weeks)
The surgical abortion during the 5-16 week period consists of the Dilation Aspiration Method. Patients can expect to be in our facility for about 4 hours. This time includes the ultrasound, lab work, counseling, the procedure (approx. 5 minutes), and about a 1 hour nurse supervised recovery time. We offer a mild sedative, medication to help cramping and a local anesthetic. We require that someone pick up and drive the patient home after the procedure and we suggest that the patient rest for the remainder of the day. Usually, the patient can return to work and normal activities the following day.
A member of our medical staff is on call 24 hours a day for questions and concerns.
Follow-Up: The patient should return to our facility 3 weeks after the procedure for a follow-up exam. At this visit, we will check vitals and determine that your uterus has returned to its normal non-pregnant size. We will perform a pregnancy test to ensure you get a negative result. If the patient would like to continue the prescribed birth control, a recent pap smear is required. If due for your annual exam you may have a pap smear for an additional fee.
We strive to place our patient's health and well-being as our first priority. We will do everything possible to make your visit as pleasant and comfortable as possible. Our staff is professionally trained and we communicate in both Spanish and English. We have other language resources available as needed. Our counselors are trained and provide you with all the information you need to choose the best option for your personal situation.
Should you need or desire your visit to be exclusively private, our staff can arrange for a private waiting area and a private recovery room separate from other patients. Your guest/family will be with you at all times until you go to the procedure room and will join you for aftercare in the private recovery room. The entire process should take less than two hours. Just let us know when you call and this can be arranged. There is an additional charge for this service. Call our office for details.
